Kraven the Hunter director pleads for fans to “give our movie a chance”

With Kraven the Hunter just around the corner, director JC Chandor is asking audiences to give Sony’s Spider-Man Universe another chance.

Sony’s 2024 superhero movie was a mixed bag. There was the massive low of Madame Web, which was ridiculed online and deemed a box office failure at $100.5 million.

Then there was Venom: The Last Dance – the finale of Tom Hardy’s symbiote trilogy, which grossed an impressive $436.6 million. However, only $128 of that came from domestic screenings. Therefore, eyes are now on Kraven the Hunter, and Chandor asks the audience for only one thing: a chance.

“I don’t want to get too deep into it, but here’s what I would say,” Chandor said [via ComicBook.com]. “For me as a filmmaker, this is my main goal, especially, honestly, over the last few years, where you guys are deep in this world… some fans out there, a lot of fans, were upset with certain decisions and certain outcomes [of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe].”

Kraven the Hunter could change Sony’s Spider-Man universe

“And other films have become huge successes. So there is a varying success rate,” Chandor added.

“People need to give us a chance and support this movie and literally try to wash away some of the other things that have happened. Give our movie a chance.”

He then promised a “fun story” with Kraven, exploring the Marvel character’s origin story. The new film, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Russell Crowe, will be released on December 13.

“I think they’ll realize that we’ve done everything we can to give them a pretty fun story. You’ll see that when the movie is over, a lot can still happen,” Chandor teased.

“But my goal was to isolate our film, protect it and just tell a damn story. And then we get the chance to do a lot of fun things.”
